Clair de Lune Wind Chime. Tuned to the opening phrase of Debussy’s Clair de Lune. Removable windcatcher for easy customization. Made from teak finish ash wood, 14 silver aluminum tubes. This chime is tuned to the distinctive opening phrase of Clair de Lune, a melody made up of seven two-note chords. To replicate this, the chime was designed with two different sized clappers, so both the upper and lower tubes are struck at the same time. In this way, it plays double stops, or two notes at one time.. Clair de Lune translates to Light of the Moon or Moonlight and is the third movement of the Suite bergamasque, one of the most famous piano suites composed by Claude Debussy. First written around 1890, when Debussy was only 28, this melody was used for the Bellagio Fountain scene at the end of Oceans Eleven. A true original, there’s no other windchime designed to play chords in this way.. Once lost, this rediscovered masterpiece catches the ear and captures the heart with its graceful melody and stately tempo. Popular as a wedding processional, the melody has also gained popularity as holiday music, making our Pachelbel Canon Chime an ideal gift for weddings, holidays and any special occasion. This chime offers the unique combination of a second petit chime that hangs within the primary chime, offering both low and high tones to sing the sounds of hope, joy, love and promise. Over 30 years ago, Grammy award-winning musician and instrument designer Garry Kvistad created the first Woodstock Chime from an aluminum lawn chair he found in a landfill. Fascinated by the Scale of Olympos, a 7th century pentatonic scale that can’t be played on a modern piano, Garry cut and tuned the lawn chair tubes to the exact frequency of the ancient scale. The resulting Chimes of Olympos was the first Woodstock Chime and is still one of our best selling, musically-tuned windchimes. Garry and his wife Diane founded Woodstock Chimes in 1979 and still develop the chimes today. It remains a family-owned business in New York’s Hudson Valley.
